FREE PRINTABLE SIGHT WORD CARDS. Keywords describe a group of standard or high-frequency words that a reader should recognize visually. Words like; the, is, and was are examples of sight words. This instant or automatic review recall helps early or inexperienced readers transform into smooth and efficient readers.

Build a Sight Word is excellent activity kids can play to develop their sight word vocabulary. With the free printable business cards, the children look at each letter and reconstruct the word with the wooden letters (build). Once the seen word has been created, cover each letter with small glass stones.

Other activities below give some ideas on playing and learning with the same items provided. You can incorporate them into literacy or math centers, group or independent activities, guided reading activities, and much better—kids choice the value of the tactile and hands-on manipulation of resources to create their visual words.

WHAT DO YOU NEED?

You will need colored glass bricks, wooden letters (and numbers), and printable sight word cards (see below for printing). You’ll need early readers, too – this is optional.

There are 90 tourist words in our free printout, but I wouldn’t recommend introducing them all at once. Every kid is unlike, and while some may be capable of handling ten visual words taught, others may only be ready for 3 or 5 visible comments at a time.

LET’S PLAY – CREATE TARGET WORDS

Children construct a sight word by choosing a card with the phrase sight on it, pronouncing the word aloud, looking at each letter in the word, and recreating the plate with the wooden letters. As soon as you have constructed the word you saw, cover each letter with small glass stones.

SOME DECODING STRATEGIES TO TRY WHEN LEARNING THE WORDS YOU ARE SEEN:

  1. Look at the first and last sound in the world (we can’t make some words right off the bat).
  2. Look for smaller words within the word seen, e.g., B. “das” also includes “hat” and “a.”
  3. Look for letter patterns like “th” in the seen word “the.”

CREATE NAMES

If you scrutinize another joy and interactive name learning activity, these tall wooden letters and glass bricks will be a winner for kids. Children can recreate their names with wooden letters and then decorate them with precious stones.

CREATE COLOR WORDS

You can also create other words such as colors, spelling words, CVC words, or relevant ones to a topic learned in class. Here, we made “colorful” words and combined them with identical colored glass gemstones.

LET’S STUDY

The seven nouns we played with are also attached to the refrigerator with magnets. Miss 5 also uses the fridge 0 magnetic letters to recreate sight words. This activity can broaden learning and strengthen understanding in a different context.

Also, leave out the wooden letters, gems, and cards with exposed words so kids can keep playing. Some children lose interest quickly and return to the activity for small play sessions if left out.
