Aside from these questions, it’s also a good idea to learn more about the potential teacher. How they act in their community, get along with others, and what other people/students say about them.
This may seem like prying into someone’s personal life, but if this person is going to help you teach your child the basics of Islam, you want to make sure that they live up to those values as much as possible.
If a child has a good teacher, they are more likely to understand the Quran more easily, in sha’Allah.
Revision That Works
Helping your child revise at home is the only way to see a teacher’s hard work and make it last. The teacher may have given your child a good start, but for them to remember what they’ve learned, you need to help them keep up with what they’ve been taught.
How do you make changes that work
Revisions work when the child can remember and use what the teacher has taught. This doesn’t happen by chance or because they’re smart. It means ensuring your child always has what they need to help them review what was taught.
Three things are essential for their changes to the Quran to work:
Time: Many say that the best time to learn and review the Quran is in the early morning, before or after Fajr Salah. Help your child choose a good time and stick to it every day so you can get into a routine
Space: If you want to learn or review the Quran, it’s also a good idea to find a quiet place in your house. Because it will cut down on distractions and help the child associate that place with learning, just like we associate the Masjid with prayer.
Attention: Everyone can benefit from having someone help them review the Quran, but children can benefit from having you there to help them, remind them of things they forgot, or even keep them company while they review. Your presence will also keep them from thinking about things other than their Quran.
Immersion in Arabic
Arabic is the language of the Quran, so it is essential to how we understand it. If you don’t know the language, the book was written in, it’s hard to say that you understand it. Your child must also know Arabic if they want to understand the Quran.
Many people who teach the Quran to people who are not Arabs also teach Arabic. And, just like with the Quran, a child needs to keep going over and practicing Arabic to understand it.
Now, one of the best ways to teach a language to a child that has been shown to work is to immerse them in it, even if it’s not natural. This means you don’t have to move to an Arab country, but you can make your home feel more like an Arab country by doing the following:
- Label things you use daily in Arabic (e.g., fridge, spoons, plates, etc.)
- Teach Arabic phrases for simple sentences, like “put on your shoes,” and keep using them.
- Use learning tools (books, downloaded printable, etc.) to help them learn Arabic words and real-life examples to help them remember them.
- All these things will help them understand Arabic better, which will help them recognize words in the Quran and, in the end, help them understand what it says.

3 Tips to Keep Your Prayer Times Safe
You probably already know how hard it is. I’m talking about how hard it is to remember when to do your Salah. You were out all day and couldn’t find a masjid or a private place to pray, so you put off Salah until you got home. Or, you got up to do one thing around the house, but before you know it, you’ve cleaned the kitchen from top to bottom and missed Salah. Or you get a passive-aggressive response when you pray at work, so you feel bad and wait until you get home to pray. We can’t pray at the right time because of many things, from annoying situations to putting things off to having weak faith or laziness. But it shouldn’t be that way.
As Muslims, we know that Salah is a big part of our faith and that it will be the first thing we are judged on the Day of Resurrection. We know that obeying Allah (SWT) should be more important to us than anything else on earth.
“Allah (mighty and sublime be He) says that a servant of Allah will be held responsible for his prayers first on the Day of Resurrection. If they are in order, he will have been successful and done well. If they are not, he will have lost and failed. Something is wrong with his obligatory prayers, the Lord (May He be praised and exalted) will say, “Check to see if My servant has any voluntary prayers that can make up for what was wrong with his required prayers.” The rest of what he does will be judged the same way.

Ask Allah for Help
This is probably the most common advice every Muslim hears, but it’s also the best and the best cliché. I used to have a hard time getting up for Tahajjud. I probably woke up once every two or three weeks.
But I wanted to wake up more often, so I started praying that I would have the strength to wake up every night.
Allah (SWT) is testing you if you can’t do your Salah at the right time, and who better to help you pass this test than Him?
Pray to Allah (SWT) to make your job easier and to help you pray at the correct times. So that Allah (SWT) can see how sincere you are, make sure that your intentions and actions match your Dua.

Start your day with prayer
Every day, you leave home at the same time, eat lunch at the same time, and do the same things when you get home at night.
What if, instead of planning your day the way most people do, you planned it around the times of your Salah? How much easier will it be for you to take your lunch break when you can find a place to pray, Zuhr Salah? Or quit your job and go straight home so you can pray Maghrib or Isha?
When you plan your day around Salah, you are more likely to remember when it is time for each prayer. This makes it easier for you to do your Salah at the right time.
Don’t lose your drive
What do you do when you want to make changes in your life? You find many ways to get yourself going. For instance, if you’re a stay-at-home mom who wants to earn a certain amount, you find a way to get to work and stay motivated enough to reach your goal.
When we want to start new habits, we make to-do lists, find accountability partners, set up reward systems for ourselves, etc. Try the same thing when you are trying to do your Salah at the right time.
Use mobile Adan notifications to remind you of Salah times. If you don’t want your phone calling you to pray in public, you can easily set your phone’s alarm off at Salah times.
Get someone to call you when it’s time for Salah, and get a simple printable tracker to help you keep track of the days you pray at the right time.
Most importantly, keep yourself going by thinking about the reward that will come to those who do their Salah at the right time and the punishment that will come to those who willfully stop doing their Salah.
